**Warning – contains spoilers for Killing Eve season 4**

Kayleigh Llewelyn, who was one of the writers on season 4 of Killing Eve has revealed she was billed to carry on for a season 5 – before things changed.

Killing Eve came to a dramatic end earlier this month after four seasons of the cat-and-mouse game between the spy and the assassin.

Just as fans finally saw Villanelle (Jodie Comer) and Eve (Sandra Oh) get what they want – each other – before one of them met a very brutal end.

However, it seems the plot wasn’t necessarily meant to finish where it did, as there were previous plans for the series to go on for longer.

Chatting to Metro.co.uk, Kayleigh, who was an episodic writer in the series finale, divulged how she was supposed to be working on more.

She said: ‘Well, when I was hired, it originally wasn’t going to be the final season, there was going to be another one.

‘That was a decision that was made during the process, so that was a big change.’

The other biggest change was unsurprisingly the impact of the Covid pandemic, which made filming logistically much more difficult, and time-consuming

‘A job that would normally have been eight months became kind of two years,’ Kayleigh added. The world kept changing, and filming constraints changed vastly, as well.’

In addition to working on Killing Eve, Kayleigh is the creator of the brilliant In My Skin which ran for two seasons.

For her work on the gloriously poignant coming-of-age series, she has been nominated for a Bafta Craft Award for best drama writer.

She’s up against Jack Thorne for his one-off drama Help, Jesse Armstrong for Succession and Russell T Davies for It’s A Sin.

A pretty low-key category, then.

Reacting to receiving her nomination, Kayleigh couldn’t hide her delight: ‘It was one of those pinch-yourself moments because the three other writers who I’m up against, sincerely wrote my favourite shows of the year!

‘People always go, “Oh, it’s just an honour to be nominated,” But actually, in my mind, they’re like the three Titans of the TV world, three of the most famous writers in the world, let alone the UK

‘To be in that lineup was really flattering and wonderful.’

Killing Eve seasons 1-4 can be streamed on BBC iPlayer in full now.

The 2022 British Academy Television Craft Awards will take place on Sunday 24 April and the Virgin Media BAFTA Television Awards will take place 8th May
