Syracuse, N.Y. — Another nor’easter will slam into Upstate New York over the next few days, dropping heavy snow in the southeastern corner of the state and at least a dusting all the way to Buffalo.

The final track of the storm is still uncertain, though, so it’s possible that heavier snow will be seen farther north and west of current forecasts.

Winter storm alerts are in place for much of Upstate. Snowfall totals could range from an inch in Western New York to 2 feet in the lower Hudson Valley. Syracuse could see 4 to 8 inches, and Albany might get a foot.

The storm is the same one that dropped several feet of snow in the Sierra Nevada in California, said Accuweather in a news release. By the time the storm rolls up the East Coast over the next couple of days, it will still pack enough energy to become a “major nor’easter” that could cause blizzard conditions and coastal flooding in New England, Accuweather said.

For Upstate New York, the storm will unfold in three parts. Light snow will reach as far north as Central New York tonight, then grow more intense Tuesday morning and last throughout the day. In some areas, a third wave, this time of lake effect snow, will last into Wednesday.

Winter storm warnings are in effect for the Catskills and lower Hudson Valley where up to 18 inches could fall and winds gusts could reach 35 mph. There, the weather service said, “travel could be very difficult to impossible.”

Winter storm alerts are also in place for much of the Southern Tier, eastern New York and the southern edge of Central New York. A foot of snow is possible in those areas.

As the storm gets closer, the projected track could shift toward the north and west, Those could be expanded as the storm gets closer. Check our weather page for updates.
