Trump Adds New Lawyers for Impeachment Trial After Lead Attorneys Exit – The Wall Street Journal

Former President Donald Trump said two new lawyers will lead his defense at his Senate impeachment trial, after his previous attorneys left the team a little over a week before the trial is scheduled to begin.

David Schoen and Bruce Castor will lead the team, Mr. Trump said in a statement Sunday, adding that Mr. Schoen had already been working with the team. Mr. Trump said both lawyers believe impeachment is unconstitutional, given that Mr. Trump is no longer president.

Mr. Trump’s second impeachment trial is set to begin in earnest the week of Feb. 8.

Mr. Schoen is a trial attorney who has previously represented Roger Stone, a longtime Trump adviser.

Mr. Castor is a former district attorney in Montgomery County, Pa. His brother, Steve, served as minority counsel in Mr. Trump’s first impeachment inquiry.
