It’s a platformer that originally launched for the Nintendo back in 2013 but has been given a refresh by developers at Nintendo.

It’s out now for Nintendo Switch and comes bundled with a new campaign called Bowser’s Fury.

Players have reacted positively so far, with fans taking to social media on Friday to praise the game’s creative design and fun gameplay.

“Ya know, despite it being a re-release, Super Mario 3D World still is, in my opinion, one of the absolute best Mario games,” one Twitter user wrote.

Another tweeted: “Just beaten World 2 in Super Mario 3D World and christ this is good. So many great ideas.”

Plenty of gamers expressed their excitement at getting to spend the weekend embroiled in the game’s colourful levels.

One Twitter lurker wrote: “Just downloaded Super Mario 3D World/Bowser’s Fury. So if anyone is wondering what I’ll be doing all weekend now you know”.

Another said: “Got a copy of Super Mario 3D World today and have actively been trying not to play it for fear of never doing anything else!”

While the game’s creative design has impressed many fans, others jokingly questioned what substances may have inspired its developers.

One Twitter user wrote: “Playing Super Mario 3D World. Given that you can plat Mario as a cat, chase a giant rabbit and thump him to get a mushroom, just *what* were they on when they wrote this!?”

Most of the original aspects of Super Mario 3D World have been retained in the revamped version.

There are a number of key changes, however – including an online multiplayer option.

Nintendo has also integrated Amiibo, in-game screenshots and a four-player co-op on Captain Toad levels.

Bower’s Fury is the new campaign, and sees Mario arrive at a new area called Lake Lapcat.

He teas up with Bowser Jr. to stop a new version of his dad – Fury Bowser.

The game takes place in an open-world like typical Super Mario games.

It’s part of the celebrations for the 35th anniversary of Super Mario Bros.

Launching alongside the game are Cat Mario and Cat Peach Amiibo figures.

In other news, The Sun’s favourite alternative to a games console is the Oculus Quest 2 VR headset.

Grab a VR headset and you’ll be able to play the legendary Beat Saber – like Guitar Hero, but with lightsabers.

And Dell’s Alienware R10 Ryzen Edition is a gaming PC powerhouse that crushes both the new consoles.
