Galentine’s Day: Best female friendships on TV – from Parks and Recreation to The OC and Gossip Girl

There is a lot that we have to thank Parks and Recreation for bringing our attention to – with the first being Galentine’s Day.

Leslie Knope, played expertly by Amy Poehler, thought up the annual celebration to commemorate her closest female friends.

‘It’s only the best day of the year,’ she told the camera in a 2010 episode of the sitcom.

‘Every February 13, my lady friends and I leave our husbands and our boyfriends at home, and we just come and kick it, breakfast style. Ladies celebrating ladies’.

There have been countless female friendships delighting small screen viewers, from Monica and Rachel on Friends to the iconic frenemies of the Upper East Side, Blair and Serena on Gossip Girl.

Sex and the City’s Samantha, Carrie, Miranda and Charlotte defined friendship for a generation of viewers, while of course, Leslie and Ann on Parks and Rec will go down in history.
