Gary Lineker is transformed into KFC icon Colonel Sanders to launch a new flavour for Walkers crisps.

The fun advert pokes fun at the former footballer’s striking similarity to the KFC Colonel as Walkers MAX teams up with KFC.

Directed by Stormzy’s go-to video director Rollo Jackson it starts with Gary munching on a bag of crisps outside a shop called Colonel’s News.

‘KFC-flavoured crisps, it’s a no-brainer. So why did it take us so long?’ the voice over says.

We then travel through a street littered with hints at the team up, such as a poster with both the Walkers MAX and KFC logos on it and two friends sharing a bucket of kentucky fried chicken and a bag of crisps at a bus stop.

‘Sometimes, spotting something obvious takes a while,’ the narrator continues, ‘even if it’s something so blindingly clear.’

Gary appears again towards the end of the ad staring in a shop window that has a white tuxedo jacket on display. Gary’s reflection in the window show the white dinner jacket perfectly positioned on him as a nod to Colonel Sanders’ famous white suit. Add to that Gary’s white hair, glasses and beard and the resemblance is uncanny.

The voice-over concludes: ‘It’s amazing we ever missed it, something staring us right in the face. Something that just makes perfect sense.’

The advert, shot in Catford, South London, premiered during the final of The Masked Singer on Saturday night.
