Gemma Atkinson and Strictly Come Dancing star Gorka Marquez engaged after romantic Valentine’s Day proposal

Strictly Come Dancing star Gorka Marquez and actress Gemma Atkinson are engaged after he popped the question on Valentine’s Day.

The former Hollyoaks star announced the happy news on Instagram with a romantic picture of the pair at the park.

In the snap Gemma cuddles up to Gorka’s neck, resting her left hand – with the engagement ring visible – on his shoulder.

She wrote in the caption: ‘Valentine’s forever…Of course I said yes.’

The couple, who met on the dancing competition in 2017, share one-year-old daughter Mia.

Gorka posted the same picture on his Instagram and added the message: ‘The best day with my forever Valentine’s ♥️ I asked and she said YES!!!!!! 💍

‘Happy Valentine’s Day everyone.’

The couple were sent message of congratulations from their Strictly friends, with Oti Mabuse writing: ‘The best news to come out of today ❤️ congratulations to the nicest people I know 👏❤️🔥👏🔥❤️ love you guys.’

Dianne Buswell said: ‘Omg congratulations guys that’s awesome xxx’ while Giovanni Pernice left a string of heart eyes emoji.

Karen Hauer wrote: ‘Omg!!! Chamo!!! Congratulations!! Sending all the love xx’ and Amy Dowden commented: ‘So happy for you guys. ❤️❤️❤️❤️ CONGRATULATIONS.’

In 2019 the former Emmerdale actress joked she had been dropping hints for Gorka to propose after giving birth to their daughter.

She told Hits Radio: ‘‘It was quite sad because until then apparently they officially take the mum’s name, but once registered she’s an official Marquez. And I’m the only one now who’s not a Marquez in the family.

‘I said to him, “You do know now we need to get married otherwise I’m not part of the family”. He’s like “Yeah we have time, it’s OK”.’
