Dancing On Ice is yet another man down on tonight’s show with Jason Donovan and Alexandra Schauman unable to participate in the Valentine’s Day special.

The Too Many Broken Hearts singer was scheduled to compete in the latest leg of the competition, but joined the increasing ranks of stars suffering injuries and illnesses in this year’s series.

So what happened to him and who else can’t compete?

Here’s what you need to know…

What happened to Jason Donovan?

It was announced on Sunday morning, hours ahead of the live show, that Jason Donovan would not be participating in the competition this week.

In a statement, the 52-year-old Australian star said: ‘I’ve had back pain the past couple of days and I’m under doctor’s orders to take it easy and sit this week out.

‘I’m resting up, I’ll be watching from home and cheering everyone on and I look forward to returning next week.’

Will Jason Donovan return to Dancing On Ice?

Currently, yes. Jason is due to return to the ice next weekend, being given a bye week by the competition.

However, if doctors rule that he cannot skate next week, he will be forced to withdraw.

Who has had to drop out of Dancing On Ice 2021 so far?

Dancing On Ice 2021 has so far had four contestants drop out of the competition ahead of eliminations.

Denise Van Outen was the first competitor who had to leave due to injury, dislocating her shoulder ahead of week one’s performances. While she skated in the debut show, doctors ruled her out of continuing further.

She was replaced by Olympian Amy Tinkler, who remains in the competition.

Next out was Rufus Hound, who tested positive for coronavirus after coming into contact with someone who had Covid-19. He was replaced by second and final reserve Matt Richardson, who was eliminated last week.

Billie Faiers followed shortly afterwards, getting a concussion after hitting her head during rehearsals, and being advised by doctors not to compete.

After being given a bye week already to mourn the death of her grandmother, rules state that she was unable to continue, and so she was forced to withdraw.

On Friday, it was announced that Emmerdale’s Joe Warren-Plant and Vanessa Bauer had also tested positive for coronavirus, and so had to withdraw from the competition as they had to isolate.

Jason Donovan is expected to return next week.

Dancing On Ice continues tonight at 6pm on ITV.
