Regina King mocks Gorilla Glue girl as she makes Saturday Night Live debut
Regina King and Keenan Thompson took Gorilla Glue girl’s case to court on Saturday Night Live this week… well, kind of.
The Academy Award winner and SNL vet joined forces on the latest episode of the satirical sketch show to mock the viral story of Tessica Brown, who needed surgical help after gluing her hair down with Gorilla Glue DIY adhesive.
Regina was seen with a ponytail sticking straight up into the sky, alongside Keenan, whose afro was gelled down to his scalp, but stuck out prominently at the back.
Playing married couple Denzel and Latrice Commode, the pair played lawyers who were seeking justice for the people who have been using industrial strength adhesive in their beauty routines.
‘We’ve all been there. You ran out of hair product, and you used Gorilla Glue instead,’ Keenan declared.
‘Fact: Every day, as many as one people fall victim to using Gorilla Glue in place of a beauty product. And they deserve compensation,’ added Regina.
‘This gorilla is problematic and needs to answer for his so-called beauty glue.’
They then introduced a team of other ‘victims’, including Ego Nwodim whose hair was sticking out horizontally, and Chris Redd who had superglued on his durag.
Cecily Strong later appears to criticise Sharpie for her eyebrows going wrong, and Silly Putty ‘for what it did to her butt’, parading around with a square backside.
Real life inspiration Tessica, 40, previously declared she was suing Gorilla Glue after having to cut off her ponytail and fly to LA in order to undergo procedures to get it removed from her hair.
Since living with the painful condition for a month, Tessica decided to set up a GoFundMe page, with the target of $1,500 (£1,085) to pay for medical bills and any wigs she may need.
But the crowdfunding page blew up, amassing more than $19,000 (£13,744).
Saturday night saw Regina make her SNL debut, and in the opening monologue she joked: ‘If you’re Black, you probably know me from being in some of your favorite movies. If you’re white, you probably know me from Watchmen… or this monologue right now.’
The star has just landed her first director’s Golden Globe nomination for her work on One Night In Miami.
