American Idol: Kellyanne Conway’s daughter Claudia wins over Katy Perry with Adele track

American Idol kicked off again in the US last night with Kellyanne Conway’s daughter Claudia winning over Katy Perry with her audition.

The 16-year-old has been making a name for herself on TikTok for her home spats with her Republican mother, who was a political consultant for Donald Trump during his presidency.

Now she’s breaking out all on her own, and appeared before judges Katy, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie for her first audition last night.

Unfortunately to begin with, her nerves for the better of her, with a rendition of Love On The Brain by Rihanna getting halted by Katy after she ‘lost it’.

‘If you sing like you want to read the comments afterwards, you’re only going to be a TikTok star,’ the Chained To The Rhythm star then told her, advising her to give another song a try.

Thankfully, her second efforts with Adele’s When We Were Young proved more successful, with Lionel and Katy sending her through to the next round.

‘I think what you’re doing right now is stepping forward and announcing who you are,’ Lionel said. ‘You chose music. I’m gonna give you a shot at music. It’s a yes for me.’

However, she’s still needing to convince Luke, who thought the song showed her ‘limited’ range.

Claudia was joined by her father George – who awkwardly campaigned against Donald Trump and founded the Lincoln Project – who looked more than proud of his little girl.

Kellyanne later appeared by videolink to surprise her daughter, and told her: ‘I love you so much. I’m so proud of you.’

Claudia was open with the judges about feeling stuck between her political parents, with her own opinions leaning more towards that of her father’s.

‘I had to move to DC when I was 12 and I hated it,’ she said. ‘When your mom is working for the President of the United States who you very much disagree with, it’s hard.’

She was then comforted by new mum Katy, who told her: ‘Your dad’s your dad. Your mom’s your mom. Who is Claudia?’

American Idol airs Sundays on ABC in the US.
