Davey Boy Smith Jr. has revealed WWE is looking at holding the Hall of Fame ceremony during WrestleMania weekend.

The son of wrestling legend British Bulldog – who was set to induct his father with the likes of Batista, the Bella Twins and John ‘Bradshaw’ Layfield also due to be honoured before 2020’s event was cancelled due to Covid – has shed some light on the company’s plans for this year’s edition.

Speaking exclusively to Metro.co.uk about plans for his speech, he said: ‘I’ve been starting to pinpoint things. I’m gonna have to base that on how much time they’re going to allow me.

‘My sister and my mother will be with me on the podium, and how much we’re gonna have to divide that between the three of us – and who’s going to do the induction for him.

‘I’m not sure what or who that might be at this point because of the Covid restrictions. I think it will just be me inducting Davey, as far as I know. I don’t think that they’re doing an audience, just with the fans from the Network on the screens.’

Smith’s suggestion that WWE is considering a virtual crowd makes it seem likely the company will look to hold the Hall of Fame ceremony in April as part of the WrestleMania 37 celebrations.

‘Yes, I believe so,’ he added. ‘I’m assuming Friday or the Saturday, because I heard Mania’s two days again this year.’

WWE is understood to be exploring all options but there’s no confirmation at this time.

As it stands, the 35-year-old wrestler is trying to put together his speech with special stories to honour his late dad, and he teased some hidden gems fans might not be aware of.

‘I’m pinpointing things down now, and trying to think of specific stories that I might want to address or what might be something the WWE Universe hasn’t heard,’ he said.

‘Of course, definitely appreciative to them for all the support they’ve given my father and the wrestling industry – definitely big thanks to them. I’ll have to see how much time I have to really decide.’

He described the induction as ‘long overdue’, but noted his gratitude to see his father Davey set to take his rightful place amongst the best in wrestling history.

‘Definitely long overdue, but I’m glad that it’s finally happened now,’ he smiled. ‘It’s a huge honour and I’m glad that WWE has put faith into me to do the induction.

‘As far as I know right now, it’s not gonna be anyone else, so I’m very grateful for that.’
