Firefly Lane fans are waiting with bated breath to find out if the show will be returning to Netflix for a second season, and Brandon Jay McLaren is just as eager to know what happens next in the hit drama.

The actor plays Travis, a widowed father whose daughter attends the same school as Kate’s daughter, Marah, who enjoys a blossoming connection with Kate Mularkey (Sarah Chalke) in the show about two best friends.

However, the pair’s romance is all sorts of complicated due to the fact Kate is in the middle of a divorce from her ex Johnny Ryan (Ben Lawson) – who she still has strong feelings for.

Season one ended with Kate still emotionally invested in both men and Brandon admits to Metro.co.uk that he hopes to see Travis and Kate grow closer if another season heads to Netflix.

The 39-year-old explained: ‘Travis is such an interesting guy, he’s the first character that I’ve played that’s just the most earnest and genuinely nice character. He has no nefarious, ulterior motives or anything.

‘So I would love to learn a little bit more about him and be able to explore he and Kate’s relationship further because they’re a cool match.’

The She’s The Man actor believes Travis would even be willing to wait for Kate if she wanted to take things slow.

He explained: ‘The cool thing about Travis is that he likes her so much that he’s willing to go with whatever arrangement. He knows it depends on where she’s at in her life and I think he’d be okay with it.

‘I don’t think he’s gonna force any ultimatums on her. He’d just be like, “Listen, take your time, I’m here. And when you decide I’ll still be here. I’m not going anywhere.” I think that’s just so lovely and how love should work.’

The Graceland actor explained how he was intrigued by the idea of the pair’s ’emotional affair’ as he continued: ‘They’re the kind of slow burn of their relationship. Both of them are hyper-aware of where they’re at emotionally and they like to talk about it. It’s great that they’re so open and honest. It’s a positive thing to see on screen.’

The series instantly topped the US charts after it’s release earlier this month and the actor told Metro.co.uk that he was delighted to see viewers love the show.

He stated: ‘I knew the novels were huge but I don’t know if you can ever anticipate it being the number one show on Netflix in the world. We’re all pleasantly surprised and just over the moon.

‘Ending things on that cliffhanger is great because we can hope it makes somebody think, “We need to know what happens”. Hopefully that bodes well for for a season two.’

Firefly Lane is out now on Netflix.
