Morven Christie replaced by Marsha Thomason on The Bay as gripping new case revealed
Marsha Thomason is set to replace Morven Christie on The Bay for the newly announced third season, taking over in the lead role.
The actress will play Morecambe CID’s new family liaison officer DS Jenn Townsend, ITV has confirmed.
Marsha is known for her performances in White Collar, Lost, Safe House and Disney’s The Haunted Mansion.
The announcement comes after Scottish actress Morven confirmed her plans to leave the show after the second season, having played DS Lisa Armstrong since season one.
Following her departure, season three will see Marsha’s character thrown head first into an absorbing case, which threatens to disturb the peace in Morecambe.
After a body is found on her first day on the job, Jenn looks into the premature death of an aspiring young boxer and liaises with his grieving family.
Daniel Ryan, Erin Shanagher, Thomas Law and Andrew Dowbiggin will also be back for the show’s third season.
Catherine Oldfield, the show’s executive producer, said: ‘Daragh and I couldn’t be more delighted by the audience response to The Bay.
‘That ITV have recommissioned the show is fantastic and to get a talent as bright and brilliant as Marsha to lead the new series is beyond exciting.’
She added: ‘We can’t wait to get back to Morecambe to start filming again in that beautiful part of the world.”
Playwright Daragh Carville is the creative force behind the show, while Furquan Akhtar is set to co-write the upcoming third series.
The second season of The Bay is currently airing on ITV and the third season is due to begin filming this spring.
The Bay season 2 continues on Wednesday at 9pm on ITV and is available to watch on ITV Player.
