This Morning viewers were less than impressed after Eamonn Holmes seemingly made a dig at his wife’s weight on today’s programme.

The husband and wife returned to present today’s show as regular hosts Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby take a much-needed break for half-term and things got a little awkward during a game of It’s Behind You.

During a game, which sees callers describe what is behind Eamonn and Ruth, one contestant was faced with a picture of Kate Middleton.

The hopeful began to describe her as being thin and ‘married to…’ but time ran out and he was forced to stop.

Eamonn then thought about what the answer could be, and said: ‘She’s very thin…’

He then turned to his wife Ruth and said: ‘Well it’s not you, darling.’

‘He wouldn’t have said she’s very thin and married to Eamonn Holmes, would he? No, he wouldn’t have done that!’ he quipped a few seconds later.

Ignoring her husband’s cutting comments, Ruth continued speaking to the caller.

‘Not bad!’ she told him, after he won £400 for playing the game.

The moment didn’t go unnoticed by viewers at home, who rushed to Twitter to call Eamonn out

‘Did Eamonn just call Ruth fat?’ asked one, while another blasted: ‘That was rather unnecessary to call Ruth fat there Eamonn.’

Echoing a similar sentiment, another penned: ‘Not particularly great entertainment… fat shaming your wife on TV Eamonn.’

Elsewhere on today’s programme, Ruth revealed how she thought her text message about getting the Covid-19 vaccine was a hoax.

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
