Daniel Silva says he ‘cherishes memories’ with Corey La Barrie after being charged with killing YouTube star

Daniel Silva has directly spoken out about Corey La Barrie’s death online for the first time after being charged with killing him, saying he ‘cherishes memories’ with him.

La Barrie died in a car crash in May last year on his 25th birthday.

Inkmaster star Silva was allegedly behind the wheel when the car crashed into a tree. It was reported that Silva attempted to flee.

Sharing a photo of a leopard tattooed on La Barrie’s arm, Silva wrote on Instagram: ‘I had the honor of tattooing this leopard on Corey before the accident. I’m grateful for the time we spent together and I will cherish those memories every day.

‘I have so much that I want to say but unfortunately I’m limited at this time. I just posted a video on YouTube with everything that I could. This still doesn’t feel real, but your love and support for Corey and I means so much to me. Love you Cory ❤️ [sic].’

He also shared a YouTube video, saying he’s ‘sorry for the all the pain everybody is going through,’ apologising directly to La Barrie, his friends, family, and fans.

Sharing his memories of the star, Silva went on to say that he ‘cherishes every single moment [he] had with him’.

‘I’ll think about him every single day for the rest of my life,’ he added.

Silva also said that La Barrie’s family sent a letter to the judge on his case, asking that the second degree murder charge be brought down to manslaughter, and thanked them for ‘recognising that this was a tragic accident’.

He went on to share the letter that the family’s lawyers sent to the judge.

Tattoo artist Silva was charged with killing La Barrie in May last year, shortly after the YouTuber’s death.

He was sentenced to 364 days in jail, five years of formal probation, 250 hours of community service and a suspended prison sentence of four years.

The Los Angeles District attorney added to Metro.co.uk: ‘A suspended sentence may be imposed if a defendant violates the terms of his probation.’

His attorney, Mike Cavalluzzi, told TMZ that he believes the sentence is fair, and added: ‘It’s important to Daniel to work with Corey’s family to make sure the memory of his friend is never forgotten.’

Silva previously pled ‘no contest’ to one felony count of gross vehicular manslaughter.

News of Silva’s arrest emerged on May 12, with LAPD confirming this in a statement, explaining a 2020 McLaren 600LT was traveling eastbound on Huston Street ‘at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control.

‘Driver then ran off the road and collided with a stop sign and a tree on the northeast corner of Huston Street and Carpenter Avenue.’

According to authorities, Silva tried to flee: ‘The driver of the McLaren exited the vehicle and attempted to leave the scene but was stopped by citizen who came to render aid. No other vehicles were involved in the collision.’

Both La Barrie and Silva were taken to a local hospital for treatment, however the YouTuber succumbed to his injuries.

His death was confirmed by his family, with his friends and fellow YouTube stars also paying tribute.
