Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Farewell Play is the ultimate family gathering and its stars David and Tamela Mann have revealed why they think the world can’t get enough of the sharp-tongued matriarch.

In the recording of Perry’s final stage run as Madea, fan-favorites such Mr. Brown (David), Cora (Tamela), and Aunt Bam are all under one roof to bring us all two hours of pure joy.

Speaking to Metro.co.uk about the lasting love for Madea and her family, Tamela admitted: ‘People love it because we touch home. We hit issues that most families have, that the majority of us are dealing with, or have dealt with.

‘Tyler comes in and just turns a light on these things and the characters. A lot of people have a grandmother like Madea or an uncle like Mr. Brown. Even with Cora being the encourager, and Peacemaker so it’s relatable.’

David added: ‘It teaches you how to handle your relationships. This go around, Madea gives great relationship advice. She don’t have no man, but she will give that good relationship advice.’

BET viewers will get to enjoy the stage performance from the comfort of their homes tonight and the actor revealed his hope for what they might take from it.

David mused: ‘The key word would be hope. For them to just get that good, warm hug from it. We’ve been a lot this year, there’s been a lot going on. For two hours, just take your mind off of it and laugh. Get some teachable moment and watch Mr. Brown dance.’

Tamela added: ‘Get some inspiration not to give up. My thing is for people not to quit on each other as family.

‘We really focus on how important family is and the love of family. People are here today and they go tomorrow, so we just want to be careful and take one day at a time and love more.’

Madea’s Farewell Play sees the entire family gather to celebrate the occasion as the gun-toting matriarch’s great-grandson is graduating from law school.

The family is in need of a happy time after Darlene has gone through a bitter divorce, leaving her financially and emotionally drained. The entire family has pitched in to help Darlene, and her son, Malik as he has barely paid his tuition bills.

The graduation party is off to a joyous start until Darlene’s ex-husband shows up uninvited. Cue the drama, and Madea stepping in to try and fix everyone’s life.

Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Farewell Play airs on BET on February 16.
