WandaVision fans are hoping Darcy Lewis will appear as Kat Dennings’ 2 Broke Girls character
Warning: spoilers ahead for episode six of WandaVision.
Numerous WandaVision fans are desperately hoping for a 2 Broke Girls reference in next week’s episode, now that Darcy Lewis (Kat Dennings) has been sucked into the ‘Hex’ created by Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen).
In episode six of the Marvel TV series on Disney Plus, Vision (Paul Bettany) manages to make his way out of the bounds of Wanda’s false reality, disintegrating before the eyes of the S.W.O.R.D. agents while no longer under her control.
To save him and bring him back into the fold, Wanda expands the anomaly she has created, which draws even more individuals into the neighbourhood of Westview, including several agents and astrophysics expert Darcy.
Each week, WandaVision pays homage to classic American sitcoms throughout the decades, previous examples being I Love Lucy, Full House (which starred Elizabeth’s older sisters Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen) and Malcolm in the Middle.
With Darcy now on the inside, some viewers are hoping the persona she assumes in Wanda and Vision’s neighbourhood will resemble the character Kat played on 2 Broke Girls from 2012 until 2017, Max Black, who worked as a waitress at a diner.
Considering WandaVision has a tendency to make meta references – such as Wanda’s mention of the film Kick-Ass, which starred Evan Peters and Aaron Taylor-Johnson who both played different versions of Quicksilver – the idea of Darcy turning up as Max isn’t necessarily that far-fetched.
‘If Darcy isn’t working as a waitress 2 Broke Girls style in the next #Wandavision I’ll eat my hat,’ one fan tweeted.
‘If #WandaVision doesn’t do a 2 Broke Girls homage to @OfficialKat‘s Darcy for the 00s/10s episode next week that’s a huge missed opportunity,’ another remarked.
Someone else expressed their hope that there would ‘at least [be] a cupcake reference’, as Max’s character in 2 Broke Girls embarks on launching a cupcake business with Caroline Channing (Beth Behrs).
Another viewer said that while they ‘have no idea how that would work’, they’re going to be in hysterics ‘if the next episode of #WandaVision is a parody of 2 Broke Girls’.
In the last episode of WandaVision, Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) says that she is going to meet an aerospace engineer who could help her find a safe way back into Wanda’s Hex.
This has fuelled speculation that the character in question could be Reed Richards from the Fantastic Four… who many fans are wishing will be played by John Krasinski.
Considering the fact that episode seven is believed to pay homage to mockumentary-style programmes Modern Family and The Office – on which John played paper salesman Jim Halpert – it’s definitely a possibility.
Kat recently revealed that Marvel sent her a list of things she ‘can’t say’ to avoid spoilers about WandaVision getting out.
Speaking on The Ellen DeGeneres show, the actor said: ‘You know, [Marvel] sends us a thing of what we can’t say, instead of what we can say.’ Consider us intrigued.
WandaVision is available to watch on Disney Plus with new episodes released on Fridays.
