Dancing On Ice 2021: Jason Donovan reveals unusual treatment he’s using to ease back pain

Jason Donovan is spending his week resting from Dancing On Ice making full use of a rather bizarre looking device to help ease his back pain.

The radio host, 52, was forced to miss Dancing On Ice’s live show on Sunday night, after suffering from back pain.

He was advised by doctors to sit out Sunday’s performance, with news of his absence being confirmed just hours before he was due to take to the ice.

It will count as a bye week for the star and fans should expect to see him back in action when Dancing On Ice returns this weekend, with Jason doing everything he can to feel fit and ready.

Taking to Instagram, he revealed the unusual treatment he’s relying on to ease his back pain – joking that it looks more like a ‘Nintendo’.

He was seen holding the device in his hands while lying on his sofa on his front, with electrodes attached to his lower back.

It’s a form of Trophic Electrical Stimulation, which sends electrical pulses to help stimulate injured muscles and nerves to help alleviate pain.

As well as providing pain relief, it can help to speed up recovery, with Jason – who has also been undergoing physiotherapy – banking on it working wonders ahead of his next routine.

Fans will be hoping so too, as they’ve no doubt got everything crossed that Jason will be able to make a comeback to Dancing On Ice, after a string of celebrities have been forced to quit the series just weeks in.

Plagued by injury, Denise Van Outen was the first star to quit the competition, after dislocating her shoulder in training ahead of her Dancing On Ice debut.

Despite making it through her first skate, doctors ruled her out of continuing further. Billie Faiers was forced to pull out of the show after getting concussion from hitting her head in rehearsals.

After taking a bye week following the death of her grandmother, Billie had no choice but to leave the competition, as doctors ruled her out of competing after her fall.

Both Rufus Hound and Emmerdale’s Joe Warren-Plant had to leave the series after testing positive for Covid-19 and being required to isolate.

Dancing On Ice continues Sunday at 6pm on ITV.
