“I Pray to God He Does Not Get Hurt” – Former WWE Writer Vince Russo Shares Honest Opinion on Sting Wrestling in AEW

AEW will present its long-awaited PPV – AEW Revolution in less than a month. The wrestling world is buzzing already, and the card looks very impressive. One highlight of Revolution this year is the in-ring return of ‘The Icon’ Sting after seven long years. And if you’re unaware, Sting is 61!

Vince Russo shares his opinion on Sting wrestling in AEW

Former WWE Producer and Writer Vince Russo recently joined Sportskeeda‘s Unskripted with Dr. Chris Featherstone. Russo talked about a lot of things and also answered several fan questions, but one question he answered perked our ears.

They asked Russo what he thinks about Sting stepping foot inside a wrestling ring again after a life-threatening injury. He said, “If Sting can still make that kind of money at his age, God bless him.”

“I was able to talk to Sting – my last conversation with Sting was after the Seth Rollins incident. And I know for a fact Sting was told to not step in a wrestling ring again,” he continued.

Russo concluded, “So my whole thing with Sting is two-fold: 1) make as much money as you can, all the power to you. If Tony Khan is willing to pay you, take the money. But 2) you know, if and when the guy gets in the ring, I pray to God he does not get hurt. I do not want to see him get hurt.”

Many wrestling fans may agree with Vince Russo, as Sting is a legend of the business who has paid his dues and more for decades. Hence, fans do not want to see him put his health and well-being at risk at his dotage.

How severe is Sting’s injury?

Sting made his long-awaited WWE debut in 2014 and attacked ‘The Game’ Triple H at Survivor Series. His WWE run was pretty short as he wrestled on four matches and lost both his major matches.

After losing to Triple H at WrestleMania 31, Sting set sights on Seth Rollins and his WWE World Heavyweight Championship. ‘The Icon’ faced Rollins for the title at Night of Champions 2015. He suffered a serious neck injury during his match with ‘The Architect’.

The WCW Legend has himself revealed he couldn’t feel his arms or legs when he suffered the injury mid-match. The WWE Hall of Famer was later diagnosed with cervical spinal stenosis, ending his in-ring career immediately. He announced his retirement during his WWE Hall of Fame induction ceremony the night before WrestleMania 32.

Sting’s match at AEW Revolution is a Street Fight with Darby Allin in his corner. We still don’t know whether it’ll be a legit pro wrestling street fight or a cinematic one. There are no concerns if it is a cinematic match. But if it’s not, we hope Sting himself and the entire crew make sure the match is safe to execute.
