‘I’m Not Doing Charity Business’-Colby Covington Shuts Door on a Potential Fight with Leon Edwards

Colby Covington

UFC welterweight Colby Covington spoke to Submission Radio in what has become a stop for frequent appearances for MMA interviews. ‘Chaos’ Covington had plenty to dissect regarding the UFC’s welterweight division and the contenders who are currently at the top. Moreover, Covington also shared his views on UFC 258’s welterweight title fight between Kamaru Usman and Gilbert Burns.

Chiefly, the former interim champion did a deep dive into possibly fighting another top-ranked welterweight in Leon Edwards. ‘Rocky’ Edwards who comes in with number three next to his name has been out of commission for a long time. He’s on an 8-fight winning streak and despite that fact is no closer to fighting for gold than anyone else.

Colby Covington disparages Leon Edwards

‘Chaos’ Covington who hasn’t been a huge fan of Leon Edwards or his fighting style pulled no punches when he was asked about possibly fighting him. Edwards has been on the sidelines for a meaningful period, and Colby didn’t appreciate his inactivity streak. Furthermore, Colby doubled down on the fact that he had his sights set solely on a title fight against the undisputed champion.

He said, “I don’t know what he’s talking about man, that’s just him talking. Let’s talk about facts, I’m not…’Leon Scott’ hasn’t earned anything. I’m in the Colby Covington.inc championship pay-per-view business. I’m not in the ‘Leon Scott’ charity business. This isn’t charity hour man, I’m fighting the top of the mountain, I’m fighting the best in the world.”

“Did Marty ‘Fake newsman’ get a call from the President after his last fight? Oh geez, I wonder why, because he sucks, he’s irrelevant. I’ve done things no one has ever done in this sport. I’m not doing charity business no more. It’s not my fault this kid hasn’t fought in two years.”

‘Chaos’ doubles down- ‘He’s irrelevant’

Colby Covington made sure to bring up the fact that other fighters out of England have fought in the pandemic. However, anyone who has followed Leon Edwards’ woes would know his inactivity is largely not his fault.

‘Chaos’ said, “There’s people from England who are fighting all the time in the pandemic. They’re not scared to fight. I’m not doing charity for this guy who hasn’t fought in two years. He’s irrelevant, he’s beat a bunch of bums and I’m not doing charity, this isn’t charity hour. This is championship fu**ing pay-per-view hour.”

Considering ‘Rocky’s ranking, Colby Covington may have to revisit his stance on fighting Leon Edwards in the future. Not to mention, Kamaru Usman is leaning towards taking on Jorge Masvidal in his next fight and he would leave ‘Chaos’ on the bench.
