Netflix has announced a new anime series, DOTA: Dragon’s Blood, based on the Valve’s multiplayer online battle arena game, DOTA 2.

There are eight new episodes on the way later this year for fans to look out for, Deadline reports.

DOTA: Dragon’s Blood follows a Dragon Knight named Davion, who heads off on a heroic journey and encounters noble princess Mirana and powerful ancient Eldwurm.

The new series will be made by Netflix in collaboration with American video game developer Valve.

Ashley Edward Miller, known for her work on X-Men: First Class and Thor, will produce the new show.

The first teaser trailer for DOTA: Dragon’s Blood has also been released. Watch it below.

It’s been a long time coming, with producer Ashley previously sharing a message on Twitter saying the anime had taken two and a half years to make

Ashley said in a statement to Deadline: ‘Fans will love how we’ve imagined the DOTA 2 universe and woven together an epic, emotional, and adult-oriented story about some of their favourite characters.

‘The cinematic animation, acting and music are simply next level and I’m grateful to Valve for supporting our creative ambitions.’

Taking to Twitter, Ashley also said she ‘couldn’t be prouder of this show, my team and my collaborators from @StudioMir2010’.

DOTA: Dragon’s Blood will arrive on the platform on March 25.

It’s the latest animation based on a video game announced on the streaming giant, after a new Tomb Raider animation was confirmed in January.

Netflix and Capcom also previously announced the new Resident Evil CG series Infinite Darkness which is due to be released later this year.

DOTA: Dragon’s Blood is set to arrive on Netflix on March 25
