Laura Whitmore is going to keep working ahead of the arrival of her first child, with the Love Island star crediting her mum for encouraging her.

The TV presenter, 35, is pregnant with her first child with husband Iain Stirling, and revealed she had to shut down people who asked her if she will ‘give up work’ ahead of the birth.

Speaking to The Telegraph she praised her mum Carmel for giving her the drive to be a working mum.

Laura said: ‘My mum grew up the youngest of 13 children in Catholic Ireland. She had a child out of wedlock and worked full-time, which taught me that there’s nothing you can’t do.

‘All my friends from school are doctors or teachers. The fact that I even thought it was possible to go off and work at MTV came from my mum because her attitude was: “If you want to, then why not?”

‘When people ask if I’m going to give up work this year because of the baby, I’m like, “Why? Mum did it in ’80s Ireland!”’

Laura secretly wed Iain, who provides the voiceover on Love Island, in Dublin and announced they had tied the knot in an Instagram post on New Year’s Day.

The Celebrity Juice star revealed they were pregnant in December, with Laura sharing an adorable photo of a baby-grow on social media.

‘So I’ve always tried to be protective over the personal side of my life,’ she began.

She continued: ‘A lot of things are just for me and my loved ones and we’ve chosen not to share publicly. However I want to now share good news as it’s our news to share – and I’m gonna be honest it’s starting to look like my lock down beer belly is out of control.

‘Iain and I are expecting a baby early 2021.

‘It’s been hard to keep such happy news quiet. Especially the times when I’ve had to run out of live radio to get sick in a bin or my penchant for a bowl of mashed potato in the morning. I wasn’t hungover like everyone thought. In fact I was completely sober filming the entire series of Celeb Juice, which is quite the accolade!’

The couple began dating in 2017 after meeting through friends before moving in together the following year.
