Brooke Shields revealed she is having to learn to walk on crutches after she broke her femur.
The 55-year-old actress told fans she is ‘beginning to mend’ as she posted a clip of herself in hospital on Instagram.
She captioned the short clip: ‘Broke my femur. Beginning to mend. No matter what your challenge is, make a positive choice, for yourself, to move forward. #BeginningisNow.’
A fractured femur or thighbone is usually treated with surgery and intensive therapy and it can take months for the bone to heal.
The Blue Lagoon star didn’t reveal how the injury occurred, or when it happened, but she was keen to reveal the progress she’s been making.
In the video, the Suddenly Susan star wore a hospital gown and non-slip socks as she moved slowly down a hospital corridor on crutches.
A doctor could be heard in the background instructing her on how to walk on her healing leg.
Brooke explained she’s only allowed to put about 20 percent of her full body weight on her fractured thighbone as she said: ‘The goal is to bend the knee each time a little bit just so you’re not dragging or hitching up your hip.’
Some of Brooke’s famous friends left messages of support as Glenn Close wrote: ‘Brooke! So sorry! Courage…it’s in your blood. Sending love.’
Sharon Stone commented: ‘Oh crap honey I’m so sorry let me know how you’re doing R u home out west I can bring food.’
While Jennifer Beals responded: ‘I know you will heal so quickly. The Force is strong in you, my friend!’
Brooke, who shares daughters Rowan, 17, and Grier, 14, with husband Chris Henchy, is typically quite active and loves sharing her workout routines online.
