Chris Noth responds to claims Mr Big won’t be in Sex and the City reboot series: ‘Everything changes’
Chris Noth had a very interesting reaction to the claims his character Mr Big would not be making an appearance in the upcoming Sex and the City revival series.
Fans were pretty devastated by reports that Carrie Bradshaw’s husband John James Preston would not be featuring in HBO Max reboot, And Just Like That…
However, there might still be hope that we’ll see Chris and Sarah Jessica Parker playing the beloved couple after the actor, 66, told a fan on Instagram: ‘Everything changes — including announcements in the rags.’
When another fan pleaded for Chris to ‘reconsider’ opting out and to not make the show’s fans ‘sad’, he playfully replied: ‘Well, if Page Six says it … it must be true 😉.’
Page Six claimed that Chris would not be returning to the cast and also reported that David Eigenberg – who plays Miranda Hobbes’ husband Steve – has not signed on to the project, although a rep said that he was in negotiations to appear.
Big appeared in all six seasons of Sex and The City as Carrie’s on again, off again boyfriend, with Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) leaving Aleksandr Petrovsky for him in Paris in the series finale.
The 2008 movie followed Big proposing, jilting Carrie at the altar, and eventually marrying her, and the much-panned sequel saw him give Carrie a late engagement ring.
If Chris wasn’t to return, it would indicate that the reboot could be taking elements of the scrapped script for a third movie.
Back in 2017, it was confirmed that Sex and the City 3 had been axed just weeks before filming commenced, and the following year, details from the script emerged, revealing that Big would have been killed off ‘relatively early’ in the movie.
While Noth is out and Eigenberg is up in the air, it’s unclear if Evan Handler will return as Charlotte York’s husband Harry for the show, or if the three women will be single again.
After public swipes at her co-stars, particularly Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall has unsurprisingly opted out of her role as sex-positive favorite Samantha on the show.
While it’s not been confirmed how Samantha’s exit will be dealt with, HBO Max’s chief content officer Casey Bloys gave hints that it will feel natural.
And Just Like That… will air on HBO Max.
