Louise Redknapp admits writing memoir was ‘difficult’ after revealing suicidal thoughts following Jamie Redknapp divorce
Louise Redknapp has been overwhelmed with messages of support after opening up about her past suicidal thoughts following her split from ex-husband Jamie Redknapp.
The ex-Eternal singer recalled how she considered ‘stepping out in front of a bus’ and taking her own life as her marriage to the retired footballer came to an end in 2017.
Louise, 46, is set to share more of her past experiences in her new autobiography, You’ve Got This: And Other Things I Wish I Had Known, which is set for release on March 7.
Speaking out after sharing her devastating revelation, Louise wrote in an Instagram post: ‘I wanted to touch base and thank you all, for all the messages I’ve received today.
‘“You’ve Got This” is by no means a tell all autobiography, But I do talk about many different aspects of my life – some good, some bad and other lessons I have learnt along the way.
‘I really do hope this book will help, empower and bring some sort of light to anybody who has been or is going through something that hasn’t been easy.’
She continued: ‘It is very difficult opening up as there is so much judgement, lack of compassion and nasty comments in the world today but the one thing I’ve learnt over the last few years is that kindness really can go a long way!
‘So to all of you that have reached out to me today thank you I will reply to as many of you as I can… you’ve all got this! Love Lou ❤️ xxx.’
Louise and Jamie, 47, tied the knot in 1998 and remained together for 19 years until their split in 2017.
The estranged couple have been amicably co-parenting their sons Charley, 16, and Beau, 12, but it was a challenging journey to get there as Louise initially struggled with the end of their marriage.
Speaking to Mail On Sunday’s You Magazine, Louise recalled: ‘I sank to my knees, crouched down by the radiator and sobbed and sobbed. That was the first time I ever wondered whether I would be better off not being here.
‘I would be standing in Central London, watching the buses whiz past and I would wonder whether it would be easier for a bus to take me out. All it would take was for me to step out at the wrong moment and it would all be over.’
When asked if she was seriously contemplating suicide, Louise replied: ‘I think so, for a split second.’
