Ellie Goulding pregnant: Singer confirms she’s expecting first child with husband Caspar Jopling
Ellie Goulding has confirmed she is pregnant.
The Love Me Like You Do hit-maker, 34, is expecting her first child with husband Caspar Jopling and revealed she is already 30-weeks gone in an interview with Vogue.
Speaking to the publication, Ellie said she found out she was having a baby when she and husband Caspar had headed overseas to celebrate their one-year wedding anniversary.
She revealed that she had ‘no idea’ that she was already pregnant while appearing on The One Show in July last year.
Ellie, who debuts her baby bump in the shoot, said: ‘We did The One Show. I was pregnant and had no idea.’
She explained: ‘That was [around] the time when Caspar and I went away briefly when we were allowed to for our one-year anniversary, and that’s basically when we found out. It was crazy because it was our one-year anniversary.’
Ellie admitted that she hadn’t been planning on getting pregnant, but gushed that now she is, she feels ‘human’.
‘That was not the plan. The thought of getting pregnant didn’t seem like it could be a reality,’ she admitted, adding: ‘Becoming pregnant kind of made me feel human.’
She continued: ‘I want a better word than womanly, [but] I have curves I’ve never had before. I’m enjoying it. My husband’s enjoying it.’
Ellie, who is known for being a bit of a fitness enthusiast, joked that now her baby has taken over her body, her days of eating salads have gone out the window and now all she’s craving is McDonalds.
She hasn’t been seen publicly since the early days of her pregnancy, after choosing to keep her news private for the most part.
Ellie explained that falling pregnant in lockdown can be ‘lonely’ and with everything that’s going on given the pandemic, it made her more ‘secretive’ and ‘protective’ over news she is expecting.
While the couple know the gender of their baby, after finding out by default at a baby scan, Ellie and Caspar are choosing to keep it to themselves for now – with Ellie adding that the sex isn’t a ‘focus’ for her, she just wants a ‘healthy baby’.
She and art dealer Caspar married in August 2019, with the ceremony taking place at York Minister and attended by several A-listers, including Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom.
In May, Ellie had opened up about how lockdown had impacted her marriage.
Not fazed by being forced together 24/7 at their home in Oxfordshire, Ellie said that lockdown has been proof that the pair can ‘coexist happily’.
‘It’s been great, I can honestly say that we haven’t come to blows, we haven’t stormed out of the house or vice versa and I’m grateful for that,’ she told Glamour UK’s digital issue.
‘[Lockdown] is probably not ideal straight after you get married, to suddenly be completely forced together, but it’s been actual evidence that we can just coexist really peacefully and really happily.’
She touched on her relationship with Caspar and revealed that the pair never argue – so much so, that she thinks that what the duo have is a ‘perfect example; of how marriage should be.
‘When I think about my marriage, it’s a perfect example of it because it’s so mature, we talk things through, and we never argue,’ she gushed.
However, living apart also works for the couple, as Ellie moved back to London in July, while Caspar stayed in Oxford to finish his MBA.
Ellie joked of the pair being apart: I love my husband – but I also love myself.’
She told The Mirror: ‘I can read a book. I can go for a run, I can eat messily. So it’s really great that you can have a partner that you don’t have to be with 24/7 – even when you’re married.’
Ellie and Caspar have been together since March 2017 and announced their engagement in August 2018 – a year before tying the knot.
