Gabby Logan shares her experiences with perimenopause after having IVF and vows not to let it affect her live TV career
Gabby Logan has opened up about her experiences with perimenopause, which came earlier than expected for her having had IVF.
The perimenopause begins years before the menopause and symptoms can include hot flushes, breast tenderness, fatigue and mood swings.
Gabby is also keen for men to be educated about the menopause and perimenopause so they can have ’empathy and understanding’ when their loved ones go through that time in their lives.
The TV presenter told Women’s Health UK podcast Going for Goal that she had her hormones checked for the first time last year.
Her doctor told her that ‘the menopause can come earlier’ as she had welcomed 15-year-old twins Reuben and Lois by IVF.
The BBC host, 47, also shared how she is managing her symptoms, revealing she hasn’t had ‘a lot of the more aggressive symptoms’ and she ‘feels really good’ with the help of bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (HRT), a treatment that replaces hormones which are at a lower level as you approach menopause.
She added that no matter what she will continue appearing on live TV as ‘on the inside I didn’t feel any different to the 32-year-old me’.
Gabby went on: ‘Yes, I’ve got more lines and of course I’m not looking exactly the same as I was when I was 32…but I also felt like I’d got more experience, there’s more I want to do and I’m better at my job, so all those things that are plus points for being a bit older.
‘I just didn’t want to stop work just because of being a certain age.
‘Being able to keep those conversations going on live television and all those things requires mental dexterity and cognitive ability.’
Adding that ‘more people are talking’ about menopause and perimenopause, Gabby said: ‘Men work alongside women, men are married to women, and I think men also need to know what’s going on because we [all] need to have that empathy and understanding of what’s happening to our partners, our friends.’
