Aaron Chalmers has confirmed plans to retire by 40 – but not before he steps into a WWE ring.

The Geordie Shore star – who has made no secret of his desire to wrestle the best superstars Europe on the NXT UK brand or worldwide on Raw or SmackDown – has offered a hint of what the future holds days after calling time on his mixed martial arts career.

He tweeted this week: ‘Couple of years in my new career which will be announced soon and then we move to @WWEUK @WWE and retired at 40 (sic)’

The 33-year-old fighter hasn’t revealed his next move just yet, although he got people talking as one fan suggested a run at celebrity boxing.

He replied: ‘Not celebrity’.

Just last summer, Aaron exclusively told Metro.co.uk all about his WWE plans, as he revealed he’d even pushed his agent to get contract talks underway.

Back in June, he said: ‘I’m hoping my agent can thrash out a deal as soon as possible, and when everything opens back up hopefully we’ll be ready to go.

‘For a kid who used to watch it religiously to eventually step through the ropes, would be like a bit of a dream come true.’

He won over the naysayers in the combat sport world, and despite his success and dedication in MMA he admitted WWE has always been in his sights – and could even turn out to be his endgame.

He said: ‘That’s always been in the back burner, but we’ve had to do everything in the right steps.

‘Try and build a profile in different ways to try and get recognised, to hopefully go to the wrestling in England and then America, and hopefully retire!’

In a move which will delight wrestling fans, Aaron is keen to become part of the NXT UK brand to get more experience before channelling the likes of Ronda Rousey and Brock Lesnar, and chasing a move to the United States.

‘I’ve got to put a lot more work in to get to that level, which I’m willing to do,’ he insisted. ‘You can’t just expect to go straight in at the top at the level where I’m at.’

However, he doesn’t think it would be long before the US – and the bright lights of Raw and SmackDown – come calling.

‘A few wrestlers were starting to get their backs up,’ he said, recalling the immediate reaction when he first teased his plans on social media earlier in June.

‘It’s jealously, because they know when I get signed there’ll be a new face in town,’ he insisted. ‘My first wrestling match will probably get more press than every wrestler altogether on that card. People don’t like it, but tough s**t!’
