The PlayStation equivalent of a Nintendo Direct will return this week, with ‘deep dives’ on upcoming PS5 games and new reveals.

It might be easy enough to understand why but last week’s Nintendo Direct was undoubtedly a disappointment, even with new announcements such as Mario Golf: Super Rush and Splatoon 3.

It’s not easy making games during lockdown and Nintendo has struggled more than most, with Sony also having to delay games including Returnal and Gran Turismo 7.

It’s those games, and the likes of Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart and Horizon Forbidden West, which will be the focus of the upcoming new State of Play, with the PlayStation Blog promising ‘deep dives for 10 games coming to PS4 and PS5’.

10 is a lot of games though, more than the number of first party titles thought to be imminent, and with Sony planning ‘new game announcements and updates on some of the third-party and indie titles you last saw in June’s PS5 showcase’.

When any of these games will be released will be of particular interest, with Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart now not due till June and Returnal in April set to be the first major Sony release of the year, not counting Destruction AllStars.

The date for Horizon Forbidden West is unclear but the recent GQ interview with PlayStation boss Jim Ryan seemed to imply it was on schedule for this Christmas.

The show will start at 10pm GMT on Thursday, February 25 and will last for 30 minutes. That’s shorter than the 50 minutes for the Nintendo Direct but still longer than normal for this sort of event.
