Series two of The Bay featured some of the crime drama’s most hard-hitting moments, with police detectives Lisa Armstrong (Morven Christie), Med Kharim (Taheen Modak) and boss Tony Manning (Daniel Ryan) returning to our screens for a new, perplexing investigation.

The second instalment picks up a year after the events of the first in Morecambe Bay, with Lisa on probation after previously tampering with CCTV footage in an investigation.

New stars in the show include Sharon Small and Game of Thrones star James Cosmo, whose lives are rocked when a member of their family is unexpectedly killed in the opening scenes of the first episode.

With the season drawing to a close on Wednesday February 24, will there be a third series? Here’s everything you need to know.

Will there be another series of The Bay?

Earlier this month, ITV and Tall Story Pictures confirmed that a third series of the show created by Daragh Carville was in the works.

ITV’s head of drama, Polly Hill, who commissioned the third series, said they were ‘delighted with the audiences’ responses to The Bay’.

Executive producer Catherine Oldfield added: ‘Daragh and I couldn’t be more delighted by the audience response to The Bay.

‘We can’t wait to get back to Morecambe to start filming again in that beautiful part of the world.

Filming is due to take place later this year.

Who is in the cast of The Bay series three?

Along with the news of the third series being commissioned, it was announced that Morven will not be reprising her role as the lead Lisa.

While Daniel will be returning as police boss Manning, Marsha Thomason will be joining as the new FLO (family liaison officer) in the West Lancashire police force, called DS Jenn Townsend.

‘To get a talent as bright and brilliant as Marsha to lead the new series is beyond exciting,’ Catherine said, while Polly described the Lost and Cobra actor as ‘fantastic’.

In addition to Jenn, viewers will also meet the police officer’s family, which includes her children and partner.

What will series three be about?

While the plot of series three has not yet been announced, we do have some information about where the story will go when it is released.

During a recent conversation with Metro.co.uk, The Bay creator Daragh explained that for the first two seasons of the show, he wanted to show different ‘aspects of the world’ in Morecambe, first with a working class family and then with a middle class family.

‘In series three we do that again,’ he said. ‘We explore a whole new set of characters and a whole new aspect of the world of The Bay.

‘The family who we get to know is a BAME family. We’re looking at a different experience of living in a place like Morecambe.’

Daragh said that he has been working with a ‘fantastic writer’ on series three called Furquan Akhtar, with whom he co-wrote the first episode and who has written a couple of episodes later on in the season.

He added: ‘It’s going to be the same show, it’s going to be very recognisably series three of The Bay. We’re not looking at a new world, but we’re looking at a new part of the existing world of the show. I’m really excited about that.’

The Bay is available to watch on ITV Player.
