Alex Reid has said he is an anti-masker despite an overwhelming amount of research to prove their benefits during the coronavirus pandemic.

The MMA fighter, 45, appeared on Fubar Radio with Bobby Norris and Stephen Leng where he spoke about his views on the coronavirus pandemic.

While face masks have been proven to help slow the spread of the virus from person to person by blocking the majority of dangerous aerosols which are released when a person speaks or coughs, Alex declared that he doesn’t believe in them.

He said on the show: ‘I’m of the opinion that the mask, I’m an anti-masker, isn’t good for the immune system, isn’t helping.

‘The number one thing I think of health is what’s going on in your mind and in your heart. And if you’re sad and miserable, one of the two things that are going to stop that is communication and community. Breathing in that air the whole time is not great. I’m not buying that.’

Despite over 2.5million people having died of Covid-19 worldwide so far, Alex also claimed that he doesn’t fully believe in that either.

He continued: ‘I’m not a big buyer on Covid. Yeah there’s something that’s killing people. And I look at the statistics.

I’ve been in more than 50 court hearings in the last 10 years. That’s very unfortunate. But when you’re in hearings, you’re presented with a lot of what I call b*****ks evidence. You can see it’s a load of rubbish, but you still have to listen to it.

‘So with the rhetoric which the government and the main sponsors, sponsored media, like the BBC, Sky, they’re telling you, I’m like, “Okay, all right, I’ll buy that a bit.”

‘But then when you hear very sound intellectual professors, not what you can say, consider as conspiracy nutters, and like you kind of listen to it. And so it’s confusing to know what’s really going on. I’m a little bit on the fence, but I have been respectful.’

Alex also believes he had coronavirus at the start of last year, attributing his recovery to a ‘positive mindset’.

He continued: ‘I 100 percent have had it right at the beginning. I felt s***ty for days. I had the poos and an achy body, all that stuff.

‘And I didn’t do anything. I just recovered, rested and did what you thought you would normally do when you feel poorly. I ate well.

‘Listen, I’ve done all my partying. I’m not anti a party, but I’m 45 years young and I want to live another good 45 years, hopefully. So I look after myself. So I just was, it’s a positive mindset.’

Evidence gathered in the past year since the pandemic began states that while most healthy people who catch coronavirus will recover fully and only have a mild to moderate illness, it is far more dangerous and deadly for those who have underlying conditions or are elderly.

The current lockdown measures are in place to stop the spread and to protect the elderly and vulnerable from catching it, particularly as it can be spread by people who are infected by asymptomatic.

Mask wearing and social distancing has also proven to be effective at decreasing the spread of infection from person to person and although there is still a risk of transmission, it is much smaller if the correct precautions are taken by all.
