Jennifer Aniston fans have major issue with viral TikTok video as they defend Rachel Greene’s ‘tic’ in Friends

Friends fans are jumping to Jennifer Aniston’s defence after a TikTok video went viral, highlighting Rachel Greene’s vocal tic.

Somehow it’s taken 17 years since Rachel ‘got off the plane’ for her character trait to have blown up all over the internet but the ‘real’ fans of the sitcom have hit back with a vengeance.

Not only is Rachel’s tic old news, it’s called acting FYI.

The clip shared by TikTok user @cts.trphe pieced together clips of Rachel clearing her throat, becoming apparent the Central Perk waitress clears her throat pretty much every time she talks.

‘Jennifer Aniston has this sort of vocal tic that she does at the beginning of every single sentence that she starts on any [episode] that she’s in,’ @cts.trphe said in the video, which features 200 examples.

‘It’s very specific, and it’s very hard to unsee once you notice it.’

Actually, if you’ve been paying any attention at all, you would have known Rachel was ‘ahem-ing’ all through the 90s and noughties and you need to catch up.

‘Omg anyone at all who knows friends knows the now so called tic,’ wrote one supportive fan on Twitter, which was echoed by another who posted: ‘More fake news. That “verbal tic” that Jennifer Aniston has in Friends? Yeah, no, that’s called acting. She clears her throat when her character is uncomfortable with what she is saying (because it’s a lie, or awkward, etc).’

A third sighed: ‘Jennifer Aniston’s throat clearing tic is so bad it took people 25+ years to notice. People suck.’

‘I’m not even a “Friends” fan and I can tell that it’s not a Jennifer Aniston Vocal Tic it’s a Rachel tic,’ complained one more. ‘Watch Jennifer in interviews and she doesn’t do it.’

Jen is yet to comment on said tic, but with a 2002 Emmy for playing Rachel on her mantel piece and an estimated $20million (£14million) annual income still coming in from Friends, it’s highly doubtful she really cares what you make of Rachel clearing her throat.

Friends is available to stream on Netflix UK, airs on Comedy Central and now Channel 5 at the weekends. Why there is no dedicated Friends channel yet remains a mystery.
