BBC’s Saturday Kitchen Live has been hit with complaints after Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt threw the show into chaos last weekend.

The broadcaster’s internal regulator released its latest complaints report, which confirmed that it received more than 100 complaints from unhappy viewers about the segment.

Viewers who contacted the BBC said they found the ‘behaviour and comments of the guests ‘inappropriate’ and that they were ‘rude’ to presenter Matt Tebbutt.

In the latest episode of the cooking programme, Matt and chef Yotam Ottolenghi invited the BBC Breakfast presenters to the show to sample their food and to talk about their work and latest projects.

However, Matt didn’t manage to ask many questions at all, because Naga and Charlie appeared to take over hosting duties, and it didn’t go unnoticed by viewers.

Releasing a statement to its website, the BBC addressed the complaints explaining to viewers they ‘appreciate the feedback’.

‘Saturday Kitchen Live’s format allows for an informal chatty style and the guests are encouraged to feel relaxed in the studio,’ the statement began.

‘Some viewers found the behaviour and comments of the guests this week to be inappropriate and that they were rude to presenter Matt. We appreciate the feedback and we shared it with the Saturday Kitchen team.’

Despite not naming the ‘rude’ guests in its statement, the only two people invited into the studio on to Saturday’s instalment was Naga and Charlie.

At the time, viewers took to social media to air their frustration and the show even started trending on Twitter with the hashtag ‘Poor Matt’.

The chaos began when Matt demonstrated how to make a dish that involved baking brie wrapped in pastry.

During the segment, the duo joked that Yotam should replace Matt as the host of the cooking programme because he was a ‘proper chef’.

Naga and Charlie went on to tease Matt about his list of questions after the TV chef admitted he hadn’t been able to ask any of them.

‘Question one on Matt’s list right, Naga, you always put me on edge, “Charlie, how do you cope with that?”’ Charlie read out as he took Matt’s cue card.

‘How do you cope with me putting Matt on edge?’ Naga asked her co-host. ‘That’s a smart question.’

Charlie continued: ‘Do you want to hear the second question? He’s worked hard on these. “How do you switch off? And, do you ignore the news when you’re not working?”‘

The TV chef tried to drag Naga and Charlie’s attention away from his questions as he joked: ‘They’re telling me I’ve got a minute, can we finish early? This has never happened before.’

Metro.co.uk has reached out to the BBC, Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt’s reps for comment.

Saturday Kitchen is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
