Ava DuVernay and Shonda Rhimes are among those calling out the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for not having any Black members ahead of the Golden Globes 2021.

The director and producer have shared the same campaign image and hashtag, referencing the #TimesUp movement.

The image reads: ‘Hollywood Foreign Press Association. Not a single Black member out of 87.’

Bridgerton and Grey’s Anatomy producer Shonda tweeted: ‘A cosmetic fix isn’t enough,’ with the hashtag: ‘#TIMESUPGlobes.’

Selma director Ava added: ‘Old news. New energy.’

Other stars supporting the campaign include Jurnee Smollett, Amy Schumer, and Judd Apatow.

The Los Angeles Times recently reported that, out of the 87 members of the HFPA, the group that decides on the Golden Globes nominations and winners, none of the members are Black.

Ava responded to the report, saying: ‘Reveals? As in, people are acting like this isn’t already widely know? for YEARS?’

The HFPA has since said that it is ‘immediately’ implementing an ‘action plan’ to bring in Black members.

A spokesperson told Sky News in a statement: ‘We are fully committed to ensuring our membership is reflective of the communities around the world who love film, TV and the artists inspiring and educating them.

‘We understand that we need to bring in Black members, as well as members from other underrepresented backgrounds, and we will immediately work to implement an action plan to achieve these goals as soon as possible.’

They also said that the group welcomes applications for membership from ‘all ethnic and cultural backgrounds’ and has not ruled out rule changes to ‘widen the pool of applicants’ in the future.

#TimesUp has previously been associated with the movement to support victims of sexual harassment.

This year’s Golden Globe Awards will take place virtually, with Amy Poehler and Tina Fey hosting from opposite coasts.
