It’s the news we’ve all been waiting for – Line of Duty series six has a start date.

We have been patiently (read: extremely impatiently) waiting for more drama from AC-12, and theorising just who H could be, for two years, since series five aired in March 2019.

Now, it has been confirmed that series six is just a month away.

A teaser aired during England’s Six Nations clash with Wales on BBC One confirmed that Jed Mercurio’s critically acclaimed Line of Duty will return to our screens on March 21, kicking off an extended seven episode run.

Our favourite bent copper-chasing team, Superintendent Ted Hastings (Adrian Dunbar), DI Kate Fleming (Vicky McClure) and DS Steve Arnott (Martin Compston) are all back, joined by Shalom Brune-Franklin as DC Chloe Bishop, a new addition to the AC-12 team.

Trainspotting star Kelly Macdonald makes her debut as guest lead Detective Chief Inspector Joanne Davidson, the senior investigating officer on an unsolved murder case whose suspicious conduct attracts the attention of Anti-Corruption.

Hastings, Fleming and Arnott investigate her unconventional conduct as the SIO of an unsolved murder that occurred one year earlier.

Instead of the usual six episodes, series six will have seven, so we’re expecting even more twists and turns.

At the top of the list of what we want to know is the identity of H, a criminal mole in the force, after series five saw the finger pointed at Hastings.

After Fleming and Arnott worked to clear the allegations against him, Hastings was reinstated as the head of AC-12, and it was suggested that H may not be a singular mole, but a group pf criminals working in the police force.

While we’re already dreading series six ending, creator Jed Mercurio hinted that it might not be the end for AC-12.

Speaking on the Out to Lunch podcast, he said: ‘Speaking about Line of Duty, Jed said: ‘What I do know is that season six proves there is much more ground for us still to cover and then in terms of other projects…I really want to carry on with Line of Duty as I think it still got some ground to cover.’

Line of Duty returns on March 21 to BBC One. Series one to five are available on iPlayer.
