I live alone and lost my job – it is horrendous but how can I get better?

DEAR DEIDRE: MY depression, anxiety and general worries have become overwhelming over the past year. It’s been horrendous.

I lost my job and because I live on my own, hundreds of miles from my family, I have hardly seen anyone. Some days I stay in bed all day.

On a good day, I go for a walk with my boyfriend.

But because he works long hours in the week, we only manage to meet at the weekend – and it’s a long week in between.

I’m 26 and he’s 27.

I know things will start to open up again soon but I’m worried I won’t be able to pull myself together and find another job.

DEIDRE SAYS: The pandemic has been really hard on people living alone but we are over the worst.

Spring is coming and with it, happier times. Even if you can’t walk with your boyfriend, try to get out in the day for some fresh air.

Once you are outside, you won’t regret it. It is positive that you realise this limited contact won’t last for ever – and once things reopen, hopefully that momentum will help you.

Talk to your doctor about how you are feeling. Also contact CALM – the Campaign Against Living Miserably (thecalmzone.net, 0800 58 58 58).
