James Corden could be adding to his trophy cabinet, after landing a nod for this year’s Golden Globes, but he’s confessed he likes to keep his awards hidden away.

The Late Late Show host, 42, has been nominated for best actor in a musical or comedy for his role in Netflix movie The Prom, released last year, at the Golden Globes and he’ll be going up against the likes of Sacha Baron Cohen and Dev Patel.

He’s no stranger to scooping up awards and already has a Tony Award and nine Emmy Awards to his name – but you won’t find them sitting pretty on his fireplace.

James revealed in a new interview that he likes to hide his gongs in a cupboard and deliberately doesn’t have them out on display in order to keep his ego in check.

Insisting the move helps him to stay grounded, James told The Mirror: ‘Do you know what, I keep them all in a cupboard.

‘I hide them aways as I don’t know if it is necessarily good for me to see them every day and think, “Oh, look at me.”‘

James continued: ‘I think that is where you can come unstuck, if you think you are a bit more of a dude than you really are.

‘They are all in a cupboard at work and one day I guess I will take them out and look at them, but right now, I guess it is best to try and look forward.’

James will find out whether he’ll be adding another trophy to his collection at this year’s Golden Globes that will be taking place virtually on Sunday.

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are back to host proceedings – albeit from different locations – and while the ceremony will be without a live audience, it will still see celebrity guests, including Joaquin Phoenix and Jamie Lee Curtis, presenting awards throughout the night.

James landed his nomination for movie The Prom, directed by Ryan Murphy, where he stars alongside Meryl Streep, Nicole Kidman and Jo Ellen Pellman.

He plays gay character Barry Glickman and came under fire from fans for ‘leaning into effeminate gay stereotypes’ for the role.

Speaking about the film, James said starring in The Prom was like a ‘dream’.

‘How often do parts come along where, you know, it’s this brilliantly written, funny dialogue, there’s big show-stopping numbers, there’s real emotional depth to it, it’s a dream in so many ways,’ he told ET Canada.

‘I feel incredibly privileged to be part of it, really. I really, really do… I’m so thrilled with how joyful the whole film looks and feels, but that’s matched by the joyful feeling we all had while making it.

The Golden Globes will take place virtually on Sunday February 28 on NBC.
