Bryan Cranston has revealed he still hasn’t fully regained his sense of taste after coming down with coronavirus nearly a year ago.

The Breaking Bad star, 65, tested positive for Covid-19 in March last year – two weeks after Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson, both 64, fell ill with the virus.

While Bryan and his wife Robin Dearden, 67, seemed to only experience mild symptoms of the infection while they had it, the actor revealed he is still facing some of the after effects.

Speaking to The Telegraph Magazine, Bryan said explained that he lost his sense of taste – a tell-tale sign of Covid-19 – and still hasn’t regained it fully almost 12 months later.

‘It’s come back to some degree,’ he said of his taste, adding: ‘But not 100 percent.’

Bryan previously revealed it was the same for his sense of smell, telling talk show host Ellen DeGeneres in December that he would struggle to smell whether someone had brewed a cup of coffee.

‘The only thing that lingered, and still is to this day, is I lost a percentage of my ability to taste and smell. I think about 75% has come back, but if someone was brewing coffee, and I walk into a kitchen, I cannot… smell it,’ he explained.

Sharing his experience of coronavirus, Bryan explained that his wife Robin fell ill shortly before he did and he was unwell for around 10 days.

‘We had a few days of achiness, but not enough to keep you in bed. I had a temperature of 99 for about three hours, and then just exhaustion for a week after that.’

In his latest interview, Bryan shared his thoughts on anti-maskers and said he’s irked by those who choose not to cover up amid the pandemic, as he urged fans to take precautions.

He said: ‘I bristle when I hear people saying it’s too big a sacrifice to wear a mask and socially distance. I’m thinking, “Is that really a sacrifice?”

‘Your grandparents, my parents, were in World War Two, that was a sacrifice. This is an inconvenience. Just buck up, wear the mask, do what we’re told by the experts, and we can overcome this.’

While the Your Honor star decided not to publicise his Covid battle straight away, he praised Hollywood star Tom for openly speaking about his experience with coronavirus from the get-go.

‘Tom got it just before I did. When he came out with it I think it was very fortunate for society that, “Oh, a rich and famous guy can get it? Then that means I can get it.”So it really hit home for a lot of people,’ he argued.

Tom, who had been filming for an Elvis Presley biopic, and wife Rita were in Australia when they came down with coronavirus and were forced to quarantine.

At the time, the Oscar-winner posted on Instagram: ‘Hello, folks. @ritawilson and I are down here in Australia. We felt a bit tired, like we had colds, and some body aches,’ he penned at the time.

‘Rita had some chills that came and went. Slight fevers too. To play things right, as is needed in the world right now, we were tested for the Coronavirus, and were found to be positive.’

Tom continued: ‘Well, now. What to do next? The Medical Officials have protocols that must be followed. We Hanks’ will be tested, observed, and isolated for as long as public health and safety requires.

‘Not much more to it than a one-day-at-a-time approach, no? We’ll keep the world posted and updated. Take care of yourselves!’
