Jane Fonda is done with marriage at 83: ‘I can watch whatever I want on TV’
After tying the knot three times, Jane Fonda has declared she has no interest in walking down the aisle for the fourth time.
The icon first wed director Roger Vadim from 1965 to 1973, before her seven-year marriage to politician Tom Hayden fizzled in 1990, and her third to CNN founder Ted Turner certainly wasn’t a charm when it ended in 2001.
And now, aged 83, the star has acknowledged that marriage wasn’t something she was destined to excel at, telling Page Six: ‘I’ll tell you something that I haven’t achieved, which is a successful marriage.’
‘But the second part of your question is, “Do you want to?’ I don’t want to.” I can watch whatever I want on TV. So I don’t ever want to be married again.’
The Fun With Dick and Jane star explained: ‘See, I live by myself. I don’t have any guy who doesn’t want a woman who is willing to be angry and who doesn’t want a woman who is willing to be angry and stand up.’
Jane went on to admit that she did wish marriage was ‘something she’d been better at’ and said that watching others grow old together was ‘wonderful’.
Although, rather than ‘regretting’ her previous romantic woes, Jane expressed to the publication that she was ‘grateful’ to have had ‘three very nice, interesting marriages.’
This comes after the Grace and Frankie star recently gave an update on her love life during an interview on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
She said she was done with sex, telling the shows guest host, Tiffany Haddish: ‘I don’t have time. I’m so old, and I’ve had so much of it, and I don’t need it right now because I’m too busy.’
Jane added: ‘My favourite ex-husband Ted Turner always said if you wait too long, then it grows over… I think he’s right. I don’t think I could have sex again even if I wanted to.’
Meanwhile, last month Jane couldn’t contain her delight as she shared the news that she had received her coronavirus vaccine.
Underneath a snap shared on Instagram, she wrote: ‘Got vaccinated today! Yay! It doesn’t hurt.’
