The likes of Nickmercs and Dr Disrespect are less than impressed with the latest Call Of Duty: Warzone update.

Call Of Duty: Warzone and Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War recently received their Season 2 updates, which have brought more new content to the game alongside quality-of-life improvements.

Ideally, a new season would not only attract new players, but also appease long-time players and encourage them to either continue playing or even return to the game if they had dropped it. In the case of a couple of prolific streamers, that hasn’t worked.

Nickmercs, Twitch streamer and member of esports organisation FaZe, has not been subtle about his displeasure for the Season 2 update, specifically the one for Warzone. During a stream, he calls the update ‘horrible,’ specifically mentioning the Gulag.

The Gulag is an area where players who have been killed can fight each other for the right to return to the match. It underwent a slight overhaul at the beginning of the last season, becoming asymmetrical in design and leading to complaints that it was no longer balanced.

Judging by Nickmercs’ reaction, the Gulag has not been improved with Season 2. He also expresses hatred for the new ship location, calling it pointless and too loud – inspiring an equally loud rant from him.

The ship intro has since been removed from the game, but it’s unlikely that that alone has improved Nickmercs’ opinion.

Nickmercs’ relationship with the game has certainly taken a hit as of late. When a Warzone tournament in January was hit with a cheating scandal, he announced he would be quitting professional Warzone play, citing the lack of proper anti-cheat software.

Dr Disrespect, who has been streaming on YouTube following his Twitch ban, feels the same, calling the update ‘horrific.’ During a recent stream, he became a target of stream snipers, which he blames on the game more so than the players.

‘I mean, it’s pretty clear the game’s not attracting any new people,’ he says, ‘People are getting lost, they’re turning into zombies, they don’t know what else to do.’

It does feel like the Call Of Duty games can’t seem to get anything right in the eyes of some players. Black Ops Cold War finally got League Play after much demand, but its implementation only angered the people who wanted it in the first place.

However, Activision isn’t exactly under much pressure. The series is performing financially better than it ever has before, to the point where Activision intends to use the same framework for other franchises.
