Ted Lasso’s Jason Sudeikis explains why he wore a tie-dye hoodie to accept Golden Globe win

Jason Sudeikis raised eyebrows by wearing a tie-dye hoodie to accept his award at the 2021 Golden Globes – but it turns out the reason is actually really sweet and a total Ted Lasso move.

The star won best actor in a TV series for a musical or comedy for his leading role in Apple TV’s heartwarming sitcom, which follows an American football coach try and train failing UK football club, AFC Richmond.

Calling in from London as he films the second season, Jason looked surprised to be taking home the win during the virtual ceremony – hosted by Amy Poehler and Tina Fey – and rather than dress up, he kept it casual in a hoodie.

But speaking after the ceremony, Jason explained that the jumper actually was a nod to celebrate his sister Kristin and the work that she does back home in New York City.

He explained that ‘Forward Space’ was actually his sister’s dance studio, and he wanted to share his pride in her work.

‘I believe, when people that you care about do cool, interesting things that you should support them. So, this is no different than that,’ he said.

‘I believe in the product as much as the message. I have a multitude of hoodies, I could have worn for a multitude of things I believe in and support.

‘This one seemed the most appropriate.’

‘I don’t know if you have siblings, but when they do something that you believe in, you encourage them to do it and you don’t refer to it as product placement,’ he added.

In the category, Jason beat Don Cheadle for Black Monday, The Great’s Nicholas Hoult, Eugene Levy for Schitt’s Creek and Ramy Youssef for Ramy to win the best actor in a comedy or musical.

However, having been unprepared for his speech, the actor started rambling, praising his fellow nominees and actors.

Don eventually stepped in and made a hand motion telling him to wrap up his two-minute long speech.

But despite the gesture, Jason found it funny, and later joked: ‘That’s just Kansas City love. He knew I’d listen to him. A lot of people don’t know he’s an excellent stage manager as well as an American acting icon.’
