Britney Spears’ father Jamie says he ‘would love’ for singer to ‘not need a conservatorship’

Britney Spears’ father Jamie says every decision he’s made has been in the singer’s ‘best interest’, according to his attorney.

The Toxic hitmaker’s father has been her conservator since she was in her 20s and, along with a lawyer, has control over her financial decisions.

The 39-year-old singer and her legal team have been fighting to end the conservatorship, leading to the #FreeBritney movement from fans, with interest in the situation being heightened by the recent unauthorized documentary Framing Britney Spears.

Jamie’s attorney Vivian Thoreen told CNN that Jamie would be happy to see the singer’s conservatorship come to an end.

She shared: ‘[Jamie] would love nothing more than to see Britney not need a conservatorship.

‘Whether or not there is an end to the conservatorship really depends on Britney. If she wants to end her conservatorship, she can file a petition to end it.’

The lawyer added: ‘Jamie is not suggesting that he is the perfect dad or that he would receive any “Father of the Year” award.

‘Like any parent, he doesn’t always see eye-to-eye on what Britney may want. But Jamie believes every single decision he has made has been in her best interest.’

Thoreen then explained that — after a judge ruled to appoint Bessemer Trust Company as co-conservator at an early February hearing — Jamie only wanted to have ‘equal power’ with the new conservator.

The meteoric rise and disturbing fall of Britney Spears has devolved into a Kafkaesque court battle that has reawakened her fandom and raised pressing questions about mental health and an individuals' rights. A re-examination of her career and a new assessment of the movement rallying against her court-mandated conservatorship capture the unsavory dimensions of the American pop-star machine.

She told the publication: ‘The court investigator also interviews everyone who is involved in the conservatorship, and they do a deep dive to really study the conservatorship to find out what’s going on. And what I can tell you is every year the court has kept the conservatorship in place.’

Britney’s lawyers previously claimed she was ‘afraid’ of her father, and said she wouldn’t perform again while he was in charge of her career.

In November, the singer’s appeal to have Jamie removed was turned down by a judge, who added that they would consider future petitions for his suspension or removal.

While Britney hasn’t directly addressed the situation in public, the singer’s boyfriend, Sam Asghari, has made his position clear, labelling Jamie a ‘d**k.’

He wrote on his Instagram Stories: ‘Now it’s important for people to understand that I have zero respect for someone trying to control our relationship and constantly throwing obstacles our way.

‘In my opinion Jamie is a total d**k. I won’t be going into details because I’ve always respected our privacy but at the same time I didn’t come to this country to not be able to express my opinion and freedom (sic).’
