Ex Dancing On Ice star Maura Higgins accuses judges of over-marking ‘basic’ routines
Maura Higgins has hit back at Dancing On Ice’s judges, claiming they were overmarking ‘basic’ routines.
The Love Island star took part in the 2020 series of the skating competition with pro partner Alexander Demetriou, placing sixth overall with Joe Swash winning the trophy.
But it seems she’s far from impressed with the routines of this year’s celebrities, and after watching Sunday’s movie night special made her feelings clear.
After watching the latest routines during Movie Week, she simply wrote alongside a shrug emoji: ‘The basic skating will get you a 9.5 this year.’
On Sunday’s episodes, stars Colin Jackson and Sonny Jay both scored 9.5s for their performances, which were inspired by Saturday Night Fever and Billy Elliott.
Rebekah Vardy, who performed to Moon River from Breakfast At Tiffany’s, was eliminated.
Maura’s thoughts come as fans have also criticised judges, Ashley Banjo, John Barrowman, Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean, for thier marking, believing they are being unfair to Corrie star Faye Brookes, who has had to switch partners.
This year’s competition, the thirteenth series overall, has been dogged with issues, causing the show to have a week-long break from rehearsals and to be cut short a further week.
The decision was made after five of the show’s celebrities were forced to drop out early due to injuries, illness and positive coronavirus tests.
Two of the show’s pros have also had to withdraw due to injury during the course of the series, with Yebin Mok getting stabbed in the shin by celeb Graham Bell’s skate blade, and Hamish Gaman stepping back from performing with Faye after tearing a tendon in his finger.
Four celebs – Colin, Sonny, Faye and Lady Leshurr – now remain, at a point when there should have been six.
Dancing On Ice continues Sunday at 6.15pm on ITV.
