The Walking Dead is heading to a close, with the massively popular drama set to finish after season 11 – but how will it end?

Showrunner Angela Kang has spoken about what fans can expect from the remaining episodes, teasing viewers about the ‘new communities’ and ‘human drama’ they’ll encounter in the future.

‘We are actively working on Season 11. It’s a long season for us, it’s 24 episodes. We keep it at 16 normally!’ Angela told NME.

‘I do have a sense of where it might end but we are working on all of that. We’ll be introducing new communities that are antagonists, sometimes allies,’ she added.

The final run of episodes will see the Walking Dead universe expand once again, with the first-look teaser focusing on the Commonwealth – the civilization behind the white-armored soldiers who will return in new episodes.

Angela went on to say: ‘There’s going to be all the human drama that we’ve built up: we’ve got Maggie back, there’s a great Maggie and Negan story that we’re working on. There will be lots to look forward to for our fans who have been following us all of this time.’

It was announced back in September that The Walking Dead would officially be coming to an end after season 11.

Scott Gimple, Chief Content Officer, confirmed the news in a press release, explaining: ‘It’s been 10 years gone by; what lies ahead are two more to come and stories and stories to tell beyond that.’

There’s a new star to watch out for in season 11 too. The Walking Dead has added Michael James Shaw to the cast to play popular character Mercer as a series regular. Mercer is part of a new group tied to the white-armoured soldiers, which were teased in a behind-the-scenes photo last year.

The show might be ending after season 11, but there’s a Daryl and Carol spin-off in the pipeline, with Norman Reedus set to reprise his role with Melissa McBride.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan also recently promised something ‘special’ in the upcoming episodes, and also talked about the possibility of seeing a Negan spin-off.

The Walking Dead seasons 1 – 10 are available on NOW TV and Sky On Demand.
