With the Brits like Emma Corrin, Josh O’Connor, and Daniel Kaluuya winning big at the Golden Globes, attention now turns to who will be scooping the awards at the Oscars this year.

The awards season is in full swing, and the next major event for the Hollywood stars sees the biggest names in film vying for that elusive Oscar award – with this year’s Academy Award ceremony set to air from multiple locations for the first time.

Last year saw Renee Zellweger win Best Actress for playing Judy Garland in Judy, while Joaquin Phoenix was named Best Actor for his role in Joker.

Bong Joon-ho’s Parasite also became the first non-English-language film to win Best Picture at the Oscars.

Here’s what to expect from this year’s Academy Awards.

When are the Oscars 2021?

The 93rd Academy Awards is due to take place on April 25, 2021.

Due to the time difference, coverage of the 2021 Oscars in the UK is due to begin at 1am (GMT) on Monday, April 26.

The ceremony has been rescheduled from its previous date of February 28 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The date change means there has been a temporary change to the Oscar’s eligibility criteria, with the December 31 deadline extended to February 28.

Films released up until that date will now qualify for recognition by the awarding body.

The Oscars will take place in multiple locations, including its usual home at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.

How can I watch the Oscars in the UK?

Sky Cinema will air the entirety of the ceremony with coverage of the red carpet arrivals starting at 10pm in the UK and the ceremony itself starting around 1am GMT.

Who is hosting the Oscars 2021?

The previous two years has seen no host at the Oscars, and instead a series of stars presents the awards.

There is no official announcement yet over whether this new tradition will continue but with filming taking place in multiple locations we could see a different host format this year.

The last time the Oscars had a host was in 2018, with comedian Jimmy Kimmel.

Kevin Hart was set to host the awards ceremony in 2019, however after some of his past homophobic tweets resurfaced, Mr Hart bowed out.

There were fears that a host-less Oscar ceremony would be a flop – but the awards show actually recorded a 12% jump in viewership, and so stuck with the winning formula in 2020.
