Viewers of Gordon Ramsay’s Bank Balance were left horrified after a pair of contestants made a huge blunder on a Doctor Who question.

Cousins Tom and Reuben were asked to name four of the 13 actors who have played the Doctor over the years – and clearly it wasn’t their question.

With the lads confidently declaring Tom Baker and Benedict Cumberbatch as answers, fans were left shouting at their TV screens.

‘How on Earth did they not know a single actor who played the Doctor,’ one viewer asked. ‘That’s actually enraged me.’

‘#bankbalance really does draw you in. Tho benedict cumberbatch as a doctor who?? Come on!’ another fumed.

One more stressed out viewer questioned: ‘How did they not get one actor who’s played the Doctor?’

However, others were impressed by their suggestions, with one viewer pointing out: ‘Cumberbatch would make a good doctor though’ and another adding: ‘Consider this an official petition to get Countryfile’s Matt Baker to be the next Doctor Who.’

For the uninitiated, Matt is best known for presenting on Blue Peter and Countryfile, while Benedict starred as Sherlock Holmes in the popular BBC drama.

The pair could have picked any of the actors, from William Hartnell, who played the first Doctor to Matt Smith, who they were most likely thinking of.

Tom and Reuben also fell short in the classic literature category, with them answering Moby Dick when asked to name some of Charles Dickens’ novels.

However, they still didn’t do too badly, leaving the show with a decent £16,000.

To win money, Gordon Ramsay’s Bank Balance contestants are tasked with answering questions in order to stack different sized gold bars onto a precarious balance board.

However, many viewers have compared the seemingly confusing game show to Joey Tribbiani’s (Matt Le Blanc) epic Bamboozled.

Gordon Ramsay’s Bank Balance returns Thursday at 9pm on BBC One.
