Ant and Dec reveal fears for X-rated sabotage on Saturday Night Takeaway
Ant and Dec have revealed their biggest worry about doing Saturday Night Takeaway with a live audience on video link is that someone might flash their ‘private parts’ on screen.
The hosts, both 45, returned last month with the new series of Saturday Night Takeaway, but due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic were unable to have a live audience in the studio.
To make up for it, their ‘audience’ appeared via video link on screens behind them on the stage – but Ant and Dec are worried someone might try and sabotage the show by flashing as it is broadcast live.
Speaking to TV Times, Ant Mcpartlin said: ‘It just means that when we used to run into the audience, now we have to run to a virtual screen instead and we can virtual high five.
‘The best way to get our attention is to look happy and smiley. The worst way is private parts.
‘We don’t wanna see any of that on Saturday night TV – we’ll leave that to Stephen Mulhern!’
Declan Donnelly added: ‘It’s a bit more difficult to see the audience reactions but we can still see smiling faces and that’s enough for us. It’s nice to have any kind of audience with us.
‘Any kind of flashing would get our attention, but we’re not requesting or supporting that kind of action, though.’
Viewers had been over the moon to see the popular show return despite the difficulties of the pandemic, crediting it as a slice of normality amid a tumultuous year, with 7.7million tuning in for the opening episode.
They also joked that Stephen Mulhern’s costume – which saw him wear gold lame hotpants and have his skin painted gold – left little to the imagination.
Thankfully, in the next segment, the presenter was seen wearing jogging bottoms over the bottom half of his outfit after Twitter was flooded with comments about how much his shorts had exposed.
Saturday Night Takeaway continues on Saturday from 7pm on ITV.
