ITV confirms that Love Island will return this summer, so hallelujah to that
Get the WhatsApp groups ready – Love Island is coming back this summer.
We have sorely missed our annual helping of hot singletons being mugged off in a sun-soaked villa, after the coronavirus pandemic made it impossible for the show to go ahead last year.
While lockdown restrictions still apply in the United Kingdom and in countries across the world, ITV has confirmed that Love Island will go ahead this summer.
Hallelujah.
ITV’s Managing Director of Media and Entertainment Kevin Lygo today announced the channel’s spring schedule, which includes the return of the jewel in ITV2’s crown.
He said: ‘There’s so much to look forward to on ITV this spring and into summer, with the Euros and the return of Love Island, but much more besides.’
The return of Love Island was announced alongside a host of shows, including The Masked Singer spin-off The Masked Dancer, a documentary about Kate Garraway’s tough year with husband Derek Draper’s hospitalisation, and a new drama, The Thief, The Wife and The Canoe, which details the story of John Darwin, who faked his own death for life insurance money.
ITV2 is also getting a new dating show in the form of Ready to Mingle, which will follow a single girl in her search for a perfect partner, as 12 male suitors compete for her affections and the chance to win a big money prize.
While Love Island has been confirmed, it is unclear as of yet where it will take place, as reports claimed that the show could be filmed in Jersey, if travel restrictions make the trip to Majorca impossible.
It’s not the first time ITV has been forced to change the location of a show, with the most recent series of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! filmed in Wales instead of Australia.
Love Island was last on our screens in January 2020, when a winter edition of the show was filmed in South Africa.
Paige Turley and Finn Tapp emerged as the winners, and the couple are still together.
It is believed Laura Whitmore and Iain Stirling – who are due to welcome their first child together this month – will return as host and narrator respectively.
The summer series usually begins at the end of May.
Love Island returns to ITV2 later this year.
