Loose Women has been nominated for a Royal Television Society (RTS) Award in the wake of the episode featuring an all Black panel for the first time.

Loose Women is up for daytime programme at the 2021 awards alongside Channel 4’s Junior Bake Off and BBC One’s The Bidding Room.

On Thursday host Charlene White revealed show bosses had submitted the October 2020 episode, which also had Brenda Edwards, Judi Love and Kelle Bryan on the panel, for consideration.

Speaking to the same line up of ladies today, Charlene said: ‘We’ve been nominated for a super posh, very swanky, Royal Television Society Award’.

As confetti rained down over the studio she continued: ‘In order to be shortlisted the judges had to watch a typical episode of Loose Women, which had to be the usual dose of fun, fire and friendship and even a few tears.

‘I know Kelle doesn’t know this, guess who was on the panel for the show that they watched? It was us four!’

Cue more celebrations and even more confetti.

‘It’s amazing,’ Charlene said. ‘As viewers will know that show was very special to all of us – on screen, off screen, it was a very special show and we’re super super super proud.’

They then aired a clip from the episode of Brenda performing Greatest Love Of All by Whitney Houston as the other stars watched on in tears.

Charlene said: ‘This isn’t just about the four of us, it’s for all the ladies on the Loose Women team, it’s for everybody behind the scenes, everyone here in the studio, all the guys that talk in my ear constantly for the show and of course it’s about you guys at home. There’s a whole team here. It may be called Loose Women but it’s about everybody that’s involved in this on the team.

‘A panel of judges will decide on a winner later on this month so please do wish us luck, we’re very excited about it.’

The episode, which aired during Black History Month, also included an interview with Baroness Doreen Lawrence OBE to talk about her son Stephen Lawrence’s legacy.

Comedian Judi later told PA that being a part of that show made her ’emotional’.

She said: ‘I don’t think people realise how much it affects someone’s dreams, or feeling like they are capable, when they don’t see someone that looks like them doing it and whether that is your ethnicity, whether that is your size, whether that is your cultural background, whether that is your disability, whether that is your sexuality, it really does make a difference in someone’s life.’

Loose Women airs weekdays from 12.30pm on ITV.
