WandaVision star Elizabeth Olsen’s mum got star’s character name wrong for four years
Elizabeth Olsen may be a favourite in the Marvel universe, but it turns out her own mum got her character’s name wrong.
The WandaVision actress, 32, was fully introduced as the Scarlet Witch in Avengers: Age of Ultron in 2015.
However, despite fronting her own series, the star revealed her mum had been calling her character something else.
During an appearance on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon, she told the host: ‘My mum just told me the other day that she’s been calling me the Red Witch for the last – she said four years, but I think I’ve been doing this for like six or seven.
‘And she just learned that I was called the Scarlet Witch last week.’
As Jimmy laughed at the gaffe, Elizabeth explained why she never thought to correct her mum’s mistake.
She continued: ‘She was like, “Why didn’t you ever correct me?” And I just told her, “I just thought you were making a joke. I didn’t know that’s what you thought my name was!”’
Well, at least now she knows.
The superhero star is a huge part of the Marvel franchise, but it turns out she could have been part of another successful series.
In fact, Elizabeth confessed that she auditioned to join Game of Thrones as Daenerys Targaryen, but had a terrible read through.
Spilling the beans on her attempt at the part, which eventually went to Emilia Clarke, she told Vulture: ‘It was the most awkward audition I’d ever had.
‘They didn’t know if they wanted a British accent or not. So, you did it in both. It was terrible.
‘Anytime someone says, “bad audition story”, that’s one I remember.’
We’re sure she would’ve smashed it.
